BAIT & HOOK STORE, WINTER 2009-2010

It’s hard to believe that another year has flown by and we’re staring at the year 2010. I don’t know about your fishing season this past year but mine was most unusual. Being the eternal optimist I am (a Cubs fan) there’s always next year. But, before then, there is some fly tying to be done! I left my share of flies hanging from branches just out of my reach, and more than several flies (I sometimes fish them two at a time) hung-up on a boulder of a favorite smallmouth stream. Winter is the time for many fly fishermen to replenish fly boxes. So, for the next several months I’ll be at the vise tying old favorites and possibly some new patterns that friends have shared with me through the year.

This is also the time for fly tying classes to start at the Bait & Hook Store. In January we will start our four-week beginning fly tying classes. The classes are not in consecutive weeks this year as you can see by the schedule below. We will also do three one-day tying clinics. This year we will do our ever popular bluegill patterns on one Saturday, tying streamer patterns on another Saturday and the last class scheduled at this time will be tying flies using deer hair. You will learn to spin and flair deer hair to make bass and bluegill flies.

The beginning class is $45.00 for all 4 sessions due upon registration. The student must bring his or her own tools and thread. We will supply all of the hooks, materials and printed matter for the class. Classes begin at 9:30 AM and usually last 2 hours.

The clinics will be $19.95 each or $45.00 for all three. Again, we will begin at 9:30 AM and the classes usually last about 4 hours with a short lunch break. You can bring your own lunch or visit one of the restaurants around the Waynedale area.
