Welcome to Northeastern Indiana Trout Association Website

Hi, Thanks for stopping in to take a look at our Web site. We hope that you’ll enjoy it and if you’re not a member, that you’ll join our group.

If you check out our “History” section, you’ll see that NEITA has been around since 1944. Our sole purpose to exist is to enhance trout fishing in Indiana. We are truly a non-profit organization. All the monies we collect through dues or donations, or our annual fund raising raffle, with the exception of office expenses, are spent buying trout to stock in public waters in Northeastern Indiana.

The Pigeon River has been stocked almost annually by NEITA since 1944. We also used to stock some lakes. We’re back in that department for the last 6 years. We’ve been stocking Brown Trout in Oliver Lake for that long. In addition we’ve stocked some Brook Trout there too. Last fall, 2005, marked the first stocking of Browns in Clear Lake. We plan to continue that stocking as long as we can get donations for it.

You might wonder why go to all the effort? We believe that by stocking Browns and Brookies, we complement the Indiana Department of Natural Resources stocking of Rainbow Trout.

Is it worth it? Ask that question of the folks that have caught Browns up to 24” out of Oliver and The Pigeon, and I think you’ll hear a BIG YES!

There’s another reason for what we do to. If you look at the following photos you’ll see that they were taken a “century” apart. (Actually 60 years) You’ll notice lots of differences in the two photos. But you’ll also notice at least four things that are the same. Look at the smiles on those four faces. It’s hard to tell who’s smiling the most, the kids or the Dads.

The older photo is of George Griffith and his dad Dennis. George remembers his dad as “Always hunting and fishing around LaGrange County.” George still lives and fishes in LaGrange County.

This recent photo was taken on opening day 2006. It’s of Billy Wright

and his dad , Mike. Billy is the nephew of NEITA board member, Denny Wright. Denny said that Billy signed up for NEITA, caught his first trout, caught his first limit of trout, and got checked by a Conservation Officer, all on opening day. Do you think that memory will last?

So that’s who we are and why we do what we do. If youre like minded and want to add to your memories or other’s, why not join our ranks. You’ll find a button on the left side to click, that will give you an application to fill out and if you want to make an extra donation to the “Big Trout” program add it right in there to. You can even specify where you want your donation to go.

We have members that haven’t fished for years, but still want to help enhance Trout fishing in Indiana. You can too.

Remember to take a kid fishing. Or take a neighbor that’s always asking you how you did. Add to the memories!

You can e-mail me through the site if you have any questions or comments.

Stop in often,

Bill
